CO-CURRICULAR
ACTIVITIES
St Joseph's Wandal encourages the students to further develop their interests and talents through participation in a variety of co-curricular activities. These include:
Sports Carnival
Our school holds an Annual Athletics Carnival each year. While all children in Prep to Years 6 are expected to participate and earn valuable points for their house team, parents, relatives and friends are also encouraged to participate either as volunteers or as active observers.
Interschool Sport
Children in Years Four and up participate in Friday afternoon interschool sporting fixtures.
Cross Country
All students participate in the Annual School Cross Country long distance running event. Representatives are then selected to participate in the District Carnival.
Eisteddfod Choirs
Each year St Joseph’s Wandal participates in the Rockhampton Eisteddfod. All children from Years One and up participate in various choirs. These include speech, vocal and novelty choirs.
Instrumental Music
Instrumental music tuition provides a value-added music component to the Arts curriculum at St Joseph's Wandal. There are two components to the programme.

All Year Four students will participate in the Instrumental Music Programme which is coordinated through The Cathedral College, our local Catholic secondary school. Students are provided with an instrument, weekly lessons and rehearsals and the opportunity to be part of the Southside Concert Band or String Ensemble. The cost of the programme is heavily subsidised thus keeping the cost per student to a minimum. Students are invited to continue with this programme in Years Five and Six.

Cultural Performances
Throughout the year, our students attend a variety of cultural/educational performances. Parents will be notified of the cost and other details prior to the date of the performances. Where possible the cost will be included with the School Fee Account for the term.
Camps & Excursions
Throughout the year, children may be given the opportunity to further enhance their learning through the real-life learning activities offered beyond the school. All camps and excursions are based on educational programmes and have clearly identified pre-tour and post-tour learning activities. Parents will be advised, in writing, of all planned excursions.
